Behind the Pen

I am B.P. Sangye, and I write for the ones history whispered about but never named. My stories live inside queer historical fiction and romance — in the stolen glances, the careful silences, the coded letters, and the extraordinary courage of people who lived between worlds. They risked everything to be who they were, to hide who they were, to love who they loved, and to keep their secrets secret. Some made it. Others didn't. But they were all of us — the queer people who came before, who struggled to stand so that we could fly. Their stories deserve to be told with the full weight of their joy, their longing, and their humanity, and that is exactly what I set out to do every time I put pen to page. I hope when you read my books, you feel them — really feel them — and maybe catch a glimpse of yourself somewhere in the past, finally seen.

Our stories were always written in the margins; now they take up the whole page.
